Fantasy film review; Vampire Academy

Vampire Academy the 2014 film based on the six set series by Richelle Mead tell the story of Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch) a dhampir (half vampire half human) and moroi (mortal vampire) her best friend who she protects Lissa Dragomire (Lucy Fry). This first film in the series follows the girls returning to vampire academy as they try to deal with the secrets , strigoi (evil traditional vampires) and school drama.

*SPOILER ALERT* (if you haven't seen this film sorry)

I'm obsessed with this film .... found it on netflix's and watched it way to much to the point were I can now quote the film. Zoey Deutch has also become a new celebrity crush for me (you will understand when you watch it)

Normally I find teen films to be predictable and boring. But this film had me glued. The relationships between the characters seems natural and the hole story line and plot just seem believable. Even at the end when they have the climax of the film there is still more that leaves you wanting the next film to be released (fingers crossed)

The main plot in this film is Lissa and Rose learning what happened while they were gone for a year. This has them facing moroi that want power and wish them dead (these are just the ones in the academy) and constantly being on alert for strigoi that want to change them and just cause havoc. Lets not forget school bullies, jealous girlfriends and ass-hole teachers while they are just doing normal teenage things like finding love and trying not to be killed.

Would definitely recommend people watch this (seriously)

Horror film review; The Purge Anarchy

The purge anarchy is the second instalment of the purge films directed by James De Monaco . This one looks at how normal everyday civilians survive during the purge. This instalment follows three different people who all join during the night to survive the disorder and mayhem of the purge. This 2014 films stars Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo and Zach Gilford

*SPOILER ALERT* (if you haven't seen the film sorry)

I find this is the one rare occasion were the sequel is a lot better then the first instalment. In this one I felt more of a connection to the characters. There were even moments were I was upset for the characters so I'm not too sure if I can class this film as a horror film or not.

This one does make you as an audience ask questions about the class system (but im not going into depth about that ... its a bit boring to be honest)

However this is definitely a film to watch with the family but not those under 15 (sorry) there's no unexpected nudity so no awkwardness but the language isn't the best. I would recommend this to anyone that loves a good action horror film.

Horror Film Review; American Mary

American Mary directed by Soska sisters stars Katharine Isabelle as the title role of Mary Mason. This 2012 Canadian horror film focuses on body modification as Mary Mason seeks revenge whilst being dragged down into preforming graphic body modification on her clients.

*SPOILER ALERT* (if you haven't watched the film sorry)

Right okay this film is definitely one of the most graphic films going but I personally loved it. The story of Mary Mason is definitely one of the most upsetting as it can and most likely has happened to regular people (although im sure not everyone would go into body modification) In the beginning of the film we see that Mary is just a regular medical student trying to do her best, she's top of her class but struggling to financially support herself. Of course things get worse for her as she is raped by one of her teachers this causes her to seek revenge on him by practising body modification. she is an amazing surgeon and soon has a reputation that proceeds her. But things get worse as a client how becomes a literal barbie parts and all is killed by her husband who then kills Mary. The twists in this film keeps it interesting as it can be difficult to get into.

I recommended that my parents watched this film as I completely loved this film as it is completely different to any other horror film that I have watched. Unfortunately my parents didn't like this film they thought it was too dark and twisted. So if you do watch this film make sure it is the type of film you would enjoy otherwise you may be freaked out by what you see.

Chrismas Film Review; Scrooged

One of my personal favourite Christmas films is Scrooged. This alternative look on the classic Christmas carol film directed by Richard Donner stars Bill Murray as the lead role of a privileged man of power who takes life for granted. This is until he his visited by three ghosts to teach him how he should live his life.

*SPOILER ALERT* (if you haven't seen the film sorry)

This is one of my personal favourites as its a dark comedy of Charles Dickens classic 'A Christmas Carol'. The film it's self does explore the classic moral of the story of being grateful for what you have but does it in a way that modern society can relate to. The fact that it is modernised means the use of special effect improves the appearance and persona of the characters in the film. As death is seen as a darker character rather than an ominous warning to the lead role.

One detail that is overlooked is the fact the director chose to have Bill Murray's character direct the classic version of A Christmas Carol. The use of this mocks the lead role and also shows audiences how far technology and imagination has changed a simple story into thousands of different unique versions of its self.

Definitely watch this film over Christmas the whole family should love it as I do

Musical Comedy Review ; Pitch Perfect

Pitch Perfect a 2012 film staring Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin and Rebel Wilson follows an acapella group called the Barton Bella's and their journey to the acapella finals.
This film follows the main character Becca (Anna Kendrick) and her love life and friends in her first year at college. Definitely a film to watch on a girls night .

*SPOILER ALERT* (if you haven't seen the film sorry)

Personally I love this film its funny clever and the music used in it is amazing I have found myself singing it in my day to day life. The characters in this film all have their own back story to make things more believable.

Truthfully  there are points in the film where it feels that the dialog is forced but certain one lines mainly from Rebel Wilson are hilarious and add so much more to the film.

Horror Film Review; Antichrist

Image result for antichrist filmAntichrist a 2009 Danish art film written and directed by Lars Van Trier stars Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbough. This film attempts to explore Satanism and how it is present though nature and women.

*SPOILERS ALERT* (If you haven't seen the film sorry)

I have been putting this review off for weeks due to the fact I have absolutely NO idea what the fuck went on in this film. Be warned this is not a film to watch with parents as it is mentally scaring.

The basic plot of the film is that the couples child falls out of a window to his death while they are intimate. This causes the wife to go insane and basically bitch ass crazy. This leads to some weird sex scenes and them going to the woods were she castrates her husband and mutilates her self in the process. Of course she is killed in the end and the final scene sees Willem Dafoe walking though a field full of women with a busted leg and no penis.

Overall I don't know what to make of this film it is just a porno instead of a horror film as throughout I was questioning how this film is deemed a horror and isn't being watched by horny people. If you do take anything from this review just don't watch it with anyone whose opinion matters to you.

Comedy Film Review; Anchorman 2 the legend continues

Anchorman 2 the legend continues released in 2013 is the sequel to the hilarious first film anchorman. This film stars the original cast of Will Ferrell, Steve Carrel, Paul Rudd, David Koechner and Christina Appelgate and sees the cast in the same slapstick comedy as the first film.

*SPOILER ALERT*
(if you haven't seen it yet sorry)

Anchorman 2 the legend continues follows Ron Burgundy and his fall from the top and triumphant return (basically the same plot as the first film). Throughout the audience learn more about Ron and veronica's relationship and see that their jobs come between them and their child. In the film Ron losses his job while Veronica becomes the top TV anchor. Of course this causes a massive clash between the two and Ron's ambition to be back on top.

For me the film was a disappointed as many jokes were recycled from the first film and it followed the same plot with exceptions of a shark and Ron going blind. Although there are many great things introduced in this film as we find out more about Brick and how he deals with his feeling for a women which leads to their marriage ( the shark of course appears but I will overlook this).

The best scene in the film which had me laughing out loud was the fight scene. This is the one bit I wont spoil as it needs to be seen

Over all I give this film ***stars as it was disappointing to begin with but is still a good film to watch.
